Affairs of State 2010.

It’s become an annual tradition for us to go to the State Fair at least one time when it’s in town. This year we only had a short time to get there because they not only moved it ahead a month, but the duration has been shortened to a mere 3 weeks.
Budget crisis anyone?
Unfortunately it was not only the timing of the fair that was reduced this year, it was also the quantity and quality of the rides. A warning for those of you buying tickets or wristbands – there are very few rides this year that are worth the More >
Receiving the KVIE Elmo Award.
Jun 14th
Last week I received KVIE Public Television’s highest award for volunteerism – the ELMO Award. The name is an homage to that loveable PBS character, but also an acronym for: Enthusiasm, Leadership, Motivation, and Optimism.
Heath and David pimped out in the photo booth. (I didn't even realize it was an ELMO hat until days later)
The award was delivered at the annual KVIE Volunteer Awards Dinner – an evening of good food, good wine, and this year a lot of good group fun. It’s always a fun dinner, but this year they brought in gaming tables, Rock Band – The Beatles, More >
To Boldly Go.
May 30th
Please thank these event sponsors!
Space. The potentially final frontier. These are the voyages of David, Laura, and Heath. Their 2-hour mission to explore strange new exhibits, to seek out TV and movie paraphernalia, to boldly go where thousands of people are going to go through the end of the year.
Star Trek – The Exhibition is now at the Aerospace Museum of California, and will be there through January 5, 2011. This is the largest collection of information and artifacts from the Star Trek canon ever to be put on display, and something you don’t want to miss out on.

There is weather associated.
May 20th
Apparently there will be weather associated with the Sacramento area this weekend, and it’s best described with an overly dramatic graphic from the Weather Channel “widget” on my msnbc.com home page.

We don’t typically get what you’d describe as THUNDERSTORMS in Sacramento. In fact, it’s something that I miss from the east coast. Big huge booming storms with thunder and lightning were both scary and exciting times growing up.
Counting to see if the storm was moving closer or farther; watching the sky light up in a bright flash just before the impending CRASH; More >
Walking on Broken Glass
Apr 26th
Here is a picture of what we woke up to at 5:30am this morning…
That would be the back of David’s jeep, with the back window smashed into fragments of black glass all over the street. Apparently someone (who was driving a white pickup truck) decided that even though they couldn’t see into the jeep there MIGHT be something worthwhile to steal from the back of it (even though the alarm LED was flashing).
Little did they know that when they smashed in the glass all they would find would be large plastic bins that wouldn’t fit through the hole. Poor them. More >
