    The Great Halloween Massacre

No ween would be complete without the ancient story of the Great Halloween Massacre, so here I deliver an encore presentation... Is everyone feeling hella good??? I know that when this special dark day of the year rolls around (not to be confused with Hershey's Special Dark Chocolates), I'm feeling hella great! Or for those of you with small children reading this, you are permitted to feel hecka great,...

    Acid washed genes.

Deoxyribonucleic acid, that is. My genes are awash with the stuff. And now it has the stain fighting power of bleach! No, not really - but it felt like the appropriate title for this article which is the second in my "What's in Heath's Genes?" series. A month ago I spit in a cup and sent it off to be tested - if you don't recall that you can read more about it in What's in your genes? Well my results are in ...

    Personality Disorders

I am an obsessive-compulsive-avoidant-paranoid-schizoid. Well, I was yesterday. Today I'm only obsessive-compulsive-avoidant. Tomorrow I'm hoping only to be obsessive-compulsive, however, given my daily mantra of "I don't like people", it's looking like tomorrow will be an avoidance day. Thank goodness I'm telecommuting tomorrow. Some time back I did a lot of reading about personality disorders. Specifically,...

Music Makes a People Come Together

Note: I originally published this in 2003, and it's long, so grab a soda and sit for a while. I felt that during this critical time in our country, when separation is becoming the norm, instead of inclusion it might be time to remind everyone that Music Makes a People Come Together. Because look around...everywhere you turn it's heartache, it's everywhere that you go... Also note: If you are able to accurately...

There are Too Many People on the Earth

I have big concerns for the stability of the planetary crust. Not only are we blasting past 7 BILLION people on the planet (remember when it was a big deal ten+ years ago when child # 6 Billion was born?), but a lot of those 7 billion people are also obese. This is old news now: The world's population is forecast to hit 7 billion next year, the vast majority of its growth coming in developing and, in many c...

Homeless Recycling Part 2

Jul 28th

Posted by heath in Awareness

Ok, so after my last note on this topic, I got a lot of good feedback from everyone, and it was much appreciated. Responses ranged from call the police, to bag up your bottles and set them on the curb so the person doesn’t have to go through the trash, to tape a note and a dollar bill to the container saying here’s a buck don’t go through my trash.

I even got feedback from someone who regularly has homeless people sleep on their front porch, and she actually makes them food and spends time talking to them. (You’re a better More >

Homeless Recycling Part 1

Jul 14th

Posted by heath in Awareness

So I live in Sacramento, in an area referred to as xxxxx, which is near the xxxxx. It’s a rather nice area of town, built in the 40′s and 50′s, and mostly quiet residential areas.

Every Thursday is trash day, and on alternating weeks it’s also recycling day, and all the neighbors drag their green and blue bins out to the street for the daily pickup.

This morning as I was preparing for work, I had finished showering and getting dressed, and stepped outside to roll the trash container up to the street. It was pretty heavy so I did it first More >

This…Is American Idol – Addiction (repeat)

so I’m an addict.

this is actually the very first season that i have watched the show…and i think i only missed the first or second episode when they began their talent searches across the country.

i’ve watched the last round of performers grow and evolve since their audition event…seen the sobs, the struts, the kicks, the mic stand swings. i have heard the flat notes, the sharp notes, and the sometimes on-tune notes. i’ve even marveled at the questionable costumes chosen for the performances.

i have put up with horrible scripting for ryan seacrest…who writes this absolute garbage for him?? “scotty the More >

Are Flavoured Sodas going too far?

So I am a HUGE fan of diet vanilla pepsi…..it’s my beverage of choice. BOC, if you will. And it always wins this award and gives me an extra day of EB every year.If for some odd reason, they are out of DVP, or the machine is faulty (this happens too often for my liking), I go for my 2nd backup choice, diet coke with lime.

If vanilla isn’t available, I move to citrus.3rd comes standard diet pepsi. While I do enjoy the other citrus option, lemon, for some reason it just never makes me feel happy and excited after drinking More >

The Always Amazing Duran Duran

Mar 2nd

Posted by heath in Music

so I went to the Duran Duran concert last night at memorial auditorium in Sacramento…there were the standard groupies, holding up signs throughout the show wanting Simon or John to do various things (including one sign that I didn’t really get that simply said: ‘Please, I will beg!’)…overall the show was incredible.

I could have done without the cover band…no idea who they were and couldn’t understand anything they were saying or singing…back to DD…the guys have an incredible amount of energy, they all look great (john and richard taylor WOO WOO), their voices still sound fantastic, and the show was quite More >
