    Acid washed genes.

Deoxyribonucleic acid, that is. My genes are awash with the stuff. And now it has the stain fighting power of bleach! No, not really - but it felt like the appropriate title for this article which is the second in my "What's in Heath's Genes?" series. A month ago I spit in a cup and sent it off to be tested - if you don't recall that you can read more about it in What's in your genes? Well my results are in ...

There are Too Many People on the Earth

I have big concerns for the stability of the planetary crust. Not only are we blasting past 7 BILLION people on the planet (remember when it was a big deal ten+ years ago when child # 6 Billion was born?), but a lot of those 7 billion people are also obese. This is old news now: The world's population is forecast to hit 7 billion next year, the vast majority of its growth coming in developing and, in many c...

Music Makes a People Come Together

Note: I originally published this in 2003, and it's long, so grab a soda and sit for a while. I felt that during this critical time in our country, when separation is becoming the norm, instead of inclusion it might be time to remind everyone that Music Makes a People Come Together. Because look around...everywhere you turn it's heartache, it's everywhere that you go... Also note: If you are able to accurately...

Memorial Day (an encore presentation)

For me, Memorial Day is the ultimate in life celebrations. I am picturing it now – what it would look like, who would attend the party, what I would be wearing, how fabulous my hair would look, people being overheard saying “Love your hair, hope you win!”.

It’s really never too soon to plan your Memorial Day festivities.

As celebrations are apt to do – it all starts with the food. Cider and white wine sangria (it’s the season to shift from red to white), fresh salads, maybe some rock shrimp or rock lobster WOO!, finger sandwiches, More >

Space. The potentially final frontier. These are the voyages of David, Laura, and Heath. Their 2-hour mission to explore strange new exhibits, to seek out TV and movie paraphernalia, to boldly go where thousands of people are going to go through the end of the year.

Star Trek – The Exhibition is now at the Aerospace Museum of California, and will be there through January 5, 2011. This is the largest collection of information and artifacts from the Star Trek canon ever to be put on display, and something you don’t want to miss out on.

I received this comment, which was actually caught in the spam filter since it came from some sex URL, but I think this must be the reason no one has commented on anything in weeks.

I hate to sound like a nitpick, but your grammar is just…deplorable. I want to be interested in this, I really do. But it seems you spent so much time on the design (which, I will say, is amazing) that you forgot that people actually have to read your blog. Clean this up…PLEASE. It could be so much bigger if you just did some work.

Rob on the Road Winery Weekend

May 23rd

Posted by heath in Food and Beverage

This weekend we participated in a Rob on the Road event – Wine Tasting in Amador County. It was a delightful experience and all the proceeds went to support KVIE Public Television – a place that you all know I’m very fond of.

We set out for Volcano, CA on Friday afternoon and arrived at the historic St. George Hotel (built in 1862). It is an absolutely beautiful hotel, complete with saloon, gardens, pet-friendly areas, and a number of guest rooms in the main hotel and the annex. We stayed in a bungalow room which provided us with a private bathroom, and this More >
